Abandoned to Brutality at 16 only: She is Tied, Beaten and Raped

Hani Haarun Hasan is only sixteen years old.

She was born in Moyale, Oromia, Ethiopia.

Her journey into hell began when she was forced into a military camp by her own government in Ethiopia.

Out of fear, she fled to Addis Ababa and in desperation, she sought a way to survive, a broker promised to help her reach Dubai. He lied.

They trafficked her through Sudan, and into Libya.

Once there, they demanded 750,000 ETB from her family.

Her family, like so many families abandoned by the world, had nothing.

So they beat, raped and tortured her for three months.

When her captors realized no money would come, they abandoned her in the streets, alone, sick, and broken.

The images attached tell a story that words can scarcely capture:

  • Deep purple welts and bruises scar her body, evidence of vicious beatings.

  • Blood pours down her head, soaking her clothes, as she sits dazed and wounded against a rough stone wall.

  • Fresh bruises bloom across her shoulder, showing the violent force inflicted upon her small frame.

  • Bound like an animal, her hands and feet tied tightly behind her back, her mouth gagged with torn cloth to stifle her screams.

  • In another image, she struggles to sit upright, the rope cutting into her skin, her eyes wide with terror, her dignity crushed before dozens of others enduring the same fate.

To this moment she’s not sheltered nor provided any medical attention by UNHCR.
