This morning, I learned that Il Giornale is making a desperate attempt to discredit my pain—the torture, enslavement, and dehumanization I suffered. They claim that the spyware detected on my phone since November 13, 2024, was a “legal penetration” because I was under investigation for associating with the sea rescue NGO Mediterranea Saving Humans. No law enforcement, no judicial authority has ever notified me of any inquiry as such. This is nothing but a smear campaign, and I strongly denounce it.
First, the Italian government funded and armed the very hands that tortured me. They stripped me of my rights, my dignity, and my freedom. When I began protesting this in Libya as early as 2019, they ignored me. When I arrived here in 2022, I continued to denounce it, and still, they refuse to acknowledge the suffering I endured—the suffering of thousands across Libya and North Africa.
Instead of reckoning with their complicity, they choose to erase us. In a short essay I wrote on January 5, 2025, I said: Libya taught me what it means to be dehumanized. Europe teaches me what it means to be erased. And today, those words are more true than ever.
To the journalist who published this article, I extend an invitation: come and look me in the eyes. Study my body. See for yourself the scars of the physical and emotional torture I endured—the very suffering you now try to bury under political propaganda. But they should know that: no lie, no defamation, no spyware will silence me and our fight for justice.
